[130714] Falling in Love #1 Weekly on Instiz & #11 on Billboard (in 1.5 days)

Less than a week ago 2NE1 made their much anticipated comeback with ‘Falling in Love‘ one year after releasing ‘I Love You‘. Just like last year they had explosive sales, hitting MelOn‘s roof 7 times and ranking #1 on several countries’ iTunes charts. Their first charting week has ended with amazing results.

Their achievements are even greater considering the heavy competition from several songs with explosive first days. ‘Falling in Love’ was released on the 8th. Davichi, who is shaping up to have 2 songs in GAON‘s mid year top 15, released their new song on the 4th. Girl groups Jewelry and APink also had long awaited comebacks on the 5th, scoring some of their highest digital debuts although not reaching #1. On the 9th, the Brown Eyed Girls  revealed their pre-release song ‘Recipe‘ after a year long hiatus themselves. Then on the 10th Geeks released a new song, ‘Fly‘, and if THAT wasn’t enough Ailee made her comeback on the 12th. 7 anticipated releases within 9 days, 5 of which were contenders for #1 realtime!

Despite all the ups and downs on the chart, 2NE1 remained strong and ended up at #1 weekly on Instiz with just shy of 30,000 points and remains #2 as of the writing of this article while all the other releases have fallen. Ailee is ranking at #1 currently, but the song is still new, only having been released 2 days ago. As you can see 2NE1 often regained the #1 spot, but a new hot release would temporarily push them back. That, however, is no suggestion that 2NE1 is doing poorly! Don’t let anyone try to convince you otherwise.

This next week is shaping up to be a battle between 2NE1 for their 2nd week at #1 and Ailee for her first week at #1, although some decently strong digital sellers are making comebacks including Infinite and B2ST.

On the Billboard Kpop Hot 100 2NE1 debuted at #11 with only 1.5 days to chart and are in a great position to take #1 next week with more time to gain airplay and downloads. The song is also holding strong on iTunes around the world but particularly in Asia, with older songs also charting as they gain new fans. (Chart below is from July 12th)

With 3 more digital singles to go this is a great start to 2NE1′s 2013 promotions. Later this week GAON will reveal their weekly rankings as well as, hopefully, their mid year charts. Stay tuned to YGLadies for all your 2NE1 news and updates!
