CL‘s much anticipated first solo single dropped on May 28th and it went to #1 on Melon as soon as it was released. Despite the song being a low bmp hip-hop track as opposed to 2NE1 and K-pop’s more public friendly sound, it seems there was enough anticipation to get people checking out the song. Within a few hours the song got a real-time allkill charting at #1 on all the Korean charts Instiz tracks.
On the 29th the song unexpectedly hit Melon’s roof joining fellow member Bom in having a solo song hit the Melon roof. Melon has the biggest market share among Korean online music retailers so charting well on Melon is significant. The music video for 나쁜 기집애 also racked up over 1 million views on Youtube in 24 hours and currently has 1.7 million views. All this points to great success for CL and potential for a solo career. It is still early and time will tell if the song remains consistent and wins over more of the public or not. What is certain is that blackjacks and music fans alike will be looking out for CL’s first live performance of the song on Inkigayo this coming Sunday, June 2nd. With banging choreography by Rie Hata and CL’s reputation for amazing lives, it is certainly a stage to anticipate. A big congratulations to CL for releasing her first solo and it doing so well!
