[130617] CL peaks at #4 on Billboard & GAON Charts succeeding in creating buzz

CL‘s first solo single ‘The Baddest Female‘  got off to a strong start, charting worldwide on iTunes and hitting a realtime allkill on Instiz, but how has the song been holding up?
On GAON, CL debuted at #4 and has spent 2 weeks in the Top 10 already gathering nearly 34 million DAs, 4 million streams and 375,000 downloads. For a song that trends towards a niche rather than popular appeal, this is very encouraging. It seems this is a continuation of YG‘s attempts to push more marginalized music styles into the mainstream this year, started with Lee Hi‘s jazzy mo-town inspired first album. Also note that the song is rising on the mobile chart.

The Baddest Female has also had a strong run on the Billboard K-pop Hot 100. While it debuted at #28 owning to only having 1 day to chart, it peaked its 2nd week at #4, coming in at #20 its 3rd week.

The song has certainly done its job creating buzz and conversation surrounding 2NE1 before their impending comeback. If you haven’t already, be sure to purchase the song on iTunes and watch the video which has almost 5 million views on Youtube, as we patiently await another chart update and news of 2NE1′s activities.
