[130621] Singapore’s Today: “5 questions with 2NE1’s Sandara Park”

SINGAPORE — You will probably never catch Korean superstar Sandara Park without a fresh slick of liner across her lids. A member of hit K-Pop girl group 2NE1 and the new face of Seoul-based make-up label, Clio, Park slaps on some kohl “even on days when I don’t have an official schedule”. Now that’s something we can all take heed of. Ahead of 2NE1’s performance at tomorrow’s Asia Style Collection show at the Singapore Expo, we learnt more about Park’s beauty secrets and why she just can’t get enough of eyeliners. (ZHANG WEIFANG)
How do you keep your skin in tip-top condition?

Sandara Park: My beauty secret to achieving that rosy and fair complexion is to get a good night’s sleep. If you don’t have the luxury of sufficient sleep because of a packed schedule, use facial masks (to moisturize and brighten skin). Whenever I feel that my skin is becoming tired and dry, I will apply a sheet mask before bed every night for a whole week to replenish the moisture in my skin.

What’s the one make-up item that you can’t live without?

Eyeliner. Even when I don’t have an official schedule for the day, I still draw on eyeliner. I like making my eyes look clear and defined by filling in the spaces between my lashes with black eyeliner. I also love adding a winged tip. Nowadays, I prefer using Clio’s Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner to liquid liners because it’s so easy and convenient to use.

Any other fave products?

Personally, I like lining my eyes, because the eyes are a very important part of your overall make-up. The Gelpresso Bloody series from Clio’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection is perfect for achieving a look that is either soft and warm, or bold and sexy. This season’s hot colour, burgundy, also looks very sophisticated.

Red or red-based eyeliners are generally difficult to pull off. How would you wear them?

A fair and spotless complexion is best for wearing sophisticated red and pink eyeliner and eyeshadow. Red or pink eyeliner may look tacky on blemished skin. Instead of drawing sharp lines, I prefer to blend the colour over the eyes for a more natural, daily wear look.

Are there any tips that you’ve taken away from make-up artists throughout your career?

I got a great tip on drawing a natural looking line (across the eyelids). Instead of beginning from the insides of the eye like most people do, try starting from the outer corners of your eyes and draw inwards. Your eyeliner will end up looking more natural this way.

Clio’s Gelpresso in Bloody Sweet, Bloody Angel and Bloody Devil are available at selected Watsons stores for S$18.90 each. (Or online with international shipping HERE)
